2017 Creative Game Design Camp at the University of Memphis
The Creative Game Design Camp is for Memphis-area high school students interested in learning video game design and programming. This event is organized and taught by faculty in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Memphis. The camp will run from July 10 to July 14 at the University of Memphis, from approximately 9 am-4 pm each day. High school students* with some computing skills will learn sufficient coding to create interactive graphic novels, which are a type of games that encourage creativity through storytelling. Students will work in teams to create their own games. The week will conclude with a demonstration of student-created games, the best of which will be awarded by a panel of judges. We'll use the RenPy (http://www.renpy.org/) game engine to bring to life all kinds of ideas, including visual novels and simulation games. The cost per student is $250. Lunch will be provided only on Friday, July 14. We have a limited number of need- and merit-based scholarships available. Each scholarship covers the full tuition fee for the 5-day camp. To apply for a scholarship, please use this form: http://bit.ly/2nFt3xG. (*) Older middle schoolers with high-school level computing experience can also participate.
